Part of being a writer is snuggling up alone on Valentine’s day with a great book (or movie, or tv show). Actually, that may just be me, but I still love it.
Anyways, here’s my 8 of my favorite fictional romances to celebrate Valentine’s day!
1. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The classic couple, separated by misunderstanding and flaws, brought together by a willingness to change.
2. Natasha Romanoff and Bucky Barnes- The Marvel Universe
Or Black Widow and Winter Soldier, to the uneducated. They’re not quite a couple in the movies yet, but they’re going to be. I can tell. What’s cuter than a couple of brainwashed assassins falling in love, being separated for years, and then reuniting in the present time?
3. Belle and Adam- Beauty and the Beast
(Yes, his name is Adam). I’m super excited about the live action movie coming out! Their shared love of reading, their gradual change of heart towards each other, and their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to protect each other all makes for an awesome romance.
4. Beatrice and Lemony Snicket- A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
We don’t know how they were as a couple, but Lemony’s dedication to Beatrice makes for a great romance.
5. Leia Organa and Han Solo- Star Wars
“I love you.” “I know.” The best romantic dialogue out there.
6. Lucy Carlyle and Anthony Lockwood- Lockwood and Co. Series by Jonathan Stroud
From one of the best middle grade series out there. These two aren’t a couple, yet, but there’s still one more book coming out that could make it official!
7. Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor- Doctor Who
Move over, Ten- Nine was there first.
8. Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
So Mr. Rochester might not be the ideal man, but Jane knows how to deal with that. Their romance isn’t one to emulate, but I know I love reading about it.

Oh goodness yes to Leia and Han and that’s got to be my favourite line in Star wars! Especially since my husband started quoting it lol.

I kinda understand where the Steve/Nat people are coming from since they get along so well. But I see their relationship very much as a brother/sister one, whereas she and Bucky? They just need to marry already:)

Ha! I absolutely see what you mean… as of right now, the relationship strikes me as completely platonic. But there is so much potential for more, I feel? All those loaded glances and tension…??? Also I do realize that Bucky+Nat is in the comics, but I haven’t seen anything to indicate that in the movies, so…

If you haven’t seen Bucky+Nat in the movies, you haven’t been looking hard enough;) I’ve caught two hints at it being a thing, but then, I’m not the least biased of observers:)

Weeeeelll, come to think of it, I’ve only seen one movie that BOTH were in, so it’s possible that there are more clues for their romance in Civil War (I’ve only seen Winter Soldier..)???

There’s a fight scene between the two in Civil War where she says to him, “You could at least recognize me.” It’s said in the moment and never referenced again, but I choose to view it as undeniable proof that they used to know each other and will have a romance:)

Ah, yes! I have heard of it/kinda sorta seen it, so I know what you’re referring to. It definitely indicates history… but I want her for Steve, so. 🙂

#5 is my favorite from your list! Also to be considered is Jo and Professor Bhaer from “Little Women” Unexpected, but good.

Good choices, I have to agree with your list! I’d also suggest Emma and Mr Knightley, Eowyn and Faramir, and maybe even John Thornton and Margaret Hale 🙂

Glad you liked the post! I have to admit, I probably like Emma and Mr. Knightly better than Darcy and Elizabeth, but since they have more time spent on their relationship I chose them for the list instead.
What are John Thornton and Margaret Hale from? Their names sound familiar, but I can’t place them…

They are from Gaskell’s North and South (a new favourite of mine, since I moved to the north of England a couple of years ago). Yes, I can totally see why you’d pick the Pride & Prejudice couple – Jane Austen just provides us with too many good options to choose from, doesn’t she?
