In honor of Father’s day, here’s some of the best fictional dads out there. None can compete with MY dad, of course, but these eight try.
1. Logan- Logan
Initially reluctant to accept the ‘dad’ role, Logan finally allows himself to see Laura as his daughter.
2. Atticus Finch- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
He may not play with his kids like the other dads in the neighborhood, but he’ll teach them to read and encourage them to think. Plus, he never looks down on kids for being young.
3. Ripred- Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins
You never thought he used to be a dad. But some of the best scenes in the series were with him and Lizzie.
4. Mr. Bennet- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
He supports Elizabeth’s refusal to marry Mr Collins, and is always willing to talk with her.
5. Wilfred Mott- Doctor Who
So maybe he’s a grandpa, but whatever. Not only is he one of the Doctor’s best companions, but he clearly loves Donna and supports her, even when others won’t. He’s always willing to watch the stars with her.
6. Alfred Pennyworth- Batman
Even superheroes need a voice of reason in their lives. And would Batman listen to anyone but his butler and father-figure?
7. Pa Ingalls- The Little House Books by Laura Ingalls
He’ll fight a bear to get back to his family, even if the bear turns out to be a tree stump.
8. Jean Valjean- Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
He’s a convict, a mayor, and superhero-strong. What little girl could ask for a better daddy?

I think it’s great that you included a few guys that were father figures instead of biological relatives. Like Alfred (I love the BatBale movies!) and Valjean (love him, too). Great post. 🙂

He’s so overlooked as a dad.

I never realized he is overlooked. He is a dad. True, he had to become a father in the most unexpected of ways. But he did the right thing by promising to Fantine on her deathbed to raise Cosette and also was able to rescue Cosette from her life of abuse from the Thenardiers.

Could be I just don’t run in the right circles to hear him praised as he should be. But I always hear Molly Weasley, for example, as a great mom. I don’t hear that about Jean Valjean. He’s pretty cool, though!

Adoptive fathers like Valjean are just as wonderful as biological parents like Molly Weasley as well
